The photography industry can be a competitive one, but it doesn’t have to be. With the right attitude and mindset, you can practice community over competition with your fellow photographers and create a space of support and encouragement. Here are five ways that you can build community over competition in the photography industry.

Encourage Others In Your Industry

One of the best things that you can do as part of creating a sense of community is to encourage others in your industry. This could be by sending an encouraging email or message, or even leaving positive comments on their social media posts. By doing this, you’re lifting each other up and creating a supportive atmosphere instead of competing against each other for clients.

Create A Community For Photographers

Creating a private Facebook group or Slack channel for photographers is another great way to practice community over competition. Whether it’s sharing resources, advice, tips and tricks, or just providing a safe space for everyone to chat about their successes and struggles, this type of online space can help foster relationships between photographers and create a sense of camaraderie within the industry.

Send Other Photographers Referrals

If someone contacts you about a service that you don’t provide or aren’t able to take on at the moment, why not refer them to another photographer who might be able to help them out? Not only will this help out someone else who might need the work more than you do right now — it also builds trust between photographers and shows that there’s more value in helping each other out than trying to compete against each other for work.

Share Your Knowledge

Whether it’s through blog posts, podcasts interviews, workshops, or presentations — sharing your knowledge is an excellent way to help others in your industry while also showcasing your expertise at the same time. Not only does it give potential clients an idea of what type of photographer you are — it also helps other photographers learn from your experience! You never know which tips or tricks will inspire someone else in their own business journey!

Don’t Get Jealous If Someone Is Doing Better In Their Business

It can be easy to get jealous when we see someone else succeeding in their business — but instead of feeling envious or resentful towards them try celebrating their successes! We all have different paths that lead us where we want our businesses to go; some people take longer than others while some people take short cuts. Regardless though — success breeds success so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t cheer one another on when we reach milestones along our own journeys!

When we focus on building community instead of competition in the photography industry, it creates an environment where everyone feels supported and encouraged instead of threatened by one another’s successes. By following these five tips above, we can foster relationships between photographers while still promoting our own businesses at the same time! So let’s set aside any feelings of envy or resentment towards our peers and start creating community over competition today!
