Is it time to go full time in your business? This is a question I fought with myself on recently and something I have been thinking about since I came back to photography. I personally doubt myself and my skills quite often and it is something I work on daily. I am terrible at comparing my business to other businesses. But we got this and if going full time is something you are even thinking about well that is half the battle! Below are a few ways to determine if it’s time to take the leap or not!
Are you running out of time for everything?
Do you feel like you don’t have enough time in the day to work and run your business? This was tough for me to determine because I feel like I can do everything in a day. When it starts feeling like you have zero free time it may be time to go full time. With school, a child, work, and a small business things were starting to be affected. Sitting up late every night to accomplish all the things was not making me happy. Why would that? So, this was a good indicator it was time to quit something so I chose to quit school and my job will be done in June.
Does your business feel like a full time job
This one is tricky because starting a business can quickly feel like working a full-time job. With starting a business, you work a lot and sometimes don’t get paid a lot from it. however, you cannot work two full time jobs forever. You cannot give your business the attention it needs to grow if you are only giving it 50%. Nothing can grow with only half of your attention. With working a full-time job and having a successful business one job will eventually have to go so make sure it is not the job you love and created.
Do you feel like your business growth has plateaued
This one was a tricky one for me because you go through seasons that are slow. However, if your business overall is plateauing because you just can’t put more time into it with another job it may be time to go full time or outsource or both!! This was a huge deciding factor for me because there are so many things, I want to do in my business in 2022 but there are just not enough hours in the day. You don’t want time to be the thing holding you back from making your business exactly what you want it to be.
Give it to god
I won’t even sit here and pretend like this is not hard for me. I have such a hard time putting my trust in things. But this one is necessary!! Last week I was faced with a very tough decision to either quit college and go full time or pay my school a big chunk of money I was not prepared to pay. So, I sat down and prayed for a sign on what to do and within 24 hours I booked three weddings, several newborns, and almost sold out my minis for two dates. Some may say that is a sign to stay in college and pay that sum of money, but I knew it was a sign to stop holding myself back and take the leap. I am a firm believer that you can always give your problems to God, and you will be led in the right direction. That may not be for everyone, but it will always be for me!
Believe in yourself
THIS ONE IS SO IMPORTANT!! This is the toughest for me and probably the toughest for a lot of people. Believing in myself and my business has been a constant struggle for years and I mean it when I say YEARS. I took my business full time the first time when I was only 20 years old, and I constantly struggled every day because I was so young. I have learned so much in the last 5 years. You can work so hard every day and yes it will get you somewhere but nowhere close to where believing in yourself can get you! I could have cut out years of struggle and self-doubt if I would have just allowed my business to speak for itself and believed in it. You are fully capable in achieving anything you want if you just believe that you can. If there are things in your life that make you doubt yourself, you may need to make some changes but whatever it takes you need to start believing in you!
I know what you’re probably thinking but Taylor I have read all of this, and I still don’t think I can go full time. Well maybe you shouldn’t you may not be there but I can almost guarantee you are more ready than you think. No one is ever comfortable enough to take a hug leap in life but sometimes you must!
