When I first started my photography business, I wanted to serve everyone. I thought that if I could just get my work in front of as many people as possible, then I would be successful. However, what I soon realized was that this was not the case. Serving everyone meant that I wasn’t serving anyone well. It wasn’t until later on that I decided to niche down and figure out who my ideal client was. If only I had done this from the beginning, it would have saved me a lot of time and stress!
Now, I specialize in wedding photography and I know exactly who my ideal client is. This has allowed me to serve them in the best way possible and has helped me to grow my business in a much more sustainable way. If you’re thinking about starting your own business, or if you’re already running one, make sure to take the time to figure out who your ideal client is. It will make a world of difference!
If you don’t know who you serve you need to take some time, sit down, and figure out who you want to serve. Once you know that then you can start marketing to them and serving them in the best way possible! If you’re a photographer, who is your ideal client? A quick Google search will help you realize that there are tons of different types of photography out there. You need to choose one that you want to specialize in and serve well.
My top 3 tips to continuing to only serve your ideal client is:
- Niche down
- Know exactly what makes up your ideal client
- Start marketing only to them
for example my ideal client is a couple who is getting married. They are a little boho but also still has a classic style. I want my clients to bring me all of the details and love unposed images. When I take a client I want to be able to feel the love they have for each other.
Because I know these are my ideal clients you will not see me posting families or a lot of posed photos. You will see me posting a lot of unposed wedding photos or detail phots.
